Just as choosing to get a tattoo should be a well-thought out decision, opting to get rid of your ink should be scrutinised just as much. Unfortunately, in your quest to get the facts about laser tattoo removal in Calgary you may come across a few urban myths that can scare you off.

In order to try and prevent these bad pieces of advice from swaying your decision, we’ve put together a list of the most common rumours and why they’re wrong, so that you can make a better-informed decision.

Myth #1: It Will Leave a Scar

Lasers used in removing tattoos target the second layer of skin – focusing on the ink under your skin colour only. If there is any scarring, it is low and shouldn’t sway you from getting rid of that tattoo you’ve hated since the moment it was on you.

Other forms of tattoo removal, such as salabrasion, can cause scarring and should not be used. Not only are they dangerous but they don’t target the ink itself in the same way that lasers do.

Make sure you look for a professional clinic to remove your tattoo, preferably one that has different laser platforms so that they can cater their service to your needs.

Myth #2: Black Ink is the Hardest to Remove

Contrary to popular belief, black ink is in fact usually the easiest colour to target. This is because coloured inks contain additives to make different hues.

Coloured tattoos may require more sessions to remove completely, but it’s best to book a consultation to find out how long it will take to make your tat history.

Myth #3: New Tattoos Cannot Be Removed

Fortunately if you’ve got a recently got a tattoo that you regret, it doesn’t have to be old and faded for it to be removed. As long as the skin is completely healed then removal can in fact be easier. This is because the ink will still be settled near the top layer of skin.

It’s best to check with a specialist how long until you can remove a tattoo, but most people should leave it around a month before seeking treatment.
