Here at The Apple Wellness Center we’re not just experts when it comes to laser tattoo removal we’re also an established dental practice, specialising in a wide range of dental services. And as such, we know a thing or two about what it takes to keep a smile healthy.

Everyone knows that in order to keep your teeth pearly and white you need to follow a good oral hygiene routine that involves brushing your teeth regularly.

But whilst you might be thinking that you’ve got the whole teeth brushing thing covered, the art of brushing your teeth the right way can actually be a little more complicated than you might think. What’s more, get this wrong, and you could be causing some serious damage to your teeth!

Inspired by this here we’re going to take a quick look at some common toothbrushing mistakes and how you can avoid them!

Rinsing After You Brush

You should always rinse after brushing right? Wrong!

Rinsing your teeth immediately after brushing can actually wash away the beneficial ingredients of your toothpaste, and that’s definitely not what you want.

Obviously, you don’t want to be walking around with a mouthful of toothpaste either, but that said, if you want to keep your teeth protected it’s best to try keep the rinsing to a minimum – your teeth will thank you.

Brushing Straight After A Meal

Another common misconception when it comes to dental care is that you should brush your teeth straight after eating. But in reality, this is something that you are definitely going to want to avoid.

If you’re wondering why, it’s because the bacteria in our mouths convert the sugar in the foods we eat into acids . And it’s these acids that can lead to cavities and other dental problems.

These acids can also weaken the surfaces of your teeth. Hence, brush too soon, and you could end up damaging you tooth enamel.

Instead it’s best to wait around half an hour or so after eating before brushing to allow the pH of your mouth time to return to normal.

Brushing Too Hard

When it comes to cleaning your home it’s often the case that the more elbow grease you put in, the better the results.

But the same cannot be said when it comes to cleaning your teeth! That’s because brush too hard and you could cause some serious damage to your teeth – yikes!

With this in mind, it’s best to stick to a soft-bristled brush and be gentle!
