Looking After Yourself this Christmas

Posted on : December 16, 2015  By : Wellness

Here at Apple Wellness Center, we don’t just deal with laser tattoo removal, we also specialise in taking care of your health, and we know that the festive period brings its own health challenges. With just over a week left until the big day, there’s plenty to be thinking about. Have you bought a big-enough turkey? Will Aunt Muriel go easy on the mulled wine this year? Have you bought enough presents for all your nieces and nephews?

What you may not have been thinking about is how you can look after yourself this Christmas, despite the fact that the festive period is one of the busiest times of year for the emergency services. So, what can you be doing to make sure that you’re still smiling come January 1st?

Don’t Overdo it!

Tis’ the season to be jolly, but be smart about it! While your workmates may be saying “but it’s Christmas!” it’s never a good idea to push yourself past your limits when it comes to festive drinking. Make sure to pace yourself during Christmas parties and try and drink water between every alcoholic drink – you’ll be thanking us in the morning! Oh, and while we’re on the subject, if you know you’re going to have a few drinks, leave the car at the office and get a taxi home.

Eat Safe

Who doesn’t love Christmas dinner?! Roast turkey with all the trimmings – you just can’t beat it! Make sure your Christmas dinner is a pleasant affair and cook safe. Avoid cross contamination by keeping raw meat away from any other foods, and make sure to use separate chopping boards. Also, stay away from washing your turkey before cooking – it’s unnecessary and it increases the risk of contamination.

Stay Cool

We know that Christmas can be a stressful time, and stress is one of your body’s biggest enemies. If you find yourself getting worked up about the size of the turkey or how much money you’ve spent over the last two weeks, take a step back. Take some deep breaths and have a minute to put things back into perspective. If you’re worried about how the day is going to run, delegate some tasks to other family members to take some of the pressure away from you.

Christmas should be an enjoyable and exciting time, so make sure you look after yourself over the festive period. If, however, you feel that you need some health advice or would like to see one of our doctors, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us by calling (587) 332-6767 to speak to a member of our team.
