Tattoos on Holiday: Why You Should Avoid Getting a Tattoo Whilst on Holiday

As a company who specialises in laser tattoo removal, we have come across many reasons for why people want their tattoos removed. Sometime it’s because they had the name of their ex partner inked onto their skin, or sometimes it’s because they were too young to understand what they wanted, or a lot of the time – it’s because they got it done whilst drunk on holiday or travelling with friends.

People on holiday or travelling often make spontaneous decisions that they wouldn’t make normally or wouldn’t even consider at home. It’s not surprising then that a lot of people later regret getting a tattoo during this period.

Biggest and Boldest Movie Tattoos

Tattoos are everywhere these days, so it’s no surprise that they’ve made the jump over onto the silver screen. Here are some of the stand-out examples that we’ve seen… we’ll leave it up to you to decide whether these characters could benefit from laser tattoo removal, or look great just the way they are…

Leonard Shelby in Memento

After Leonard suffers some pretty serious memory loss in Memento, he turns to tattoos to keep permanent records of key facts and information – pretty nifty. Of course, it wouldn’t make much sense for him to get inked with a crucial nugget of knowledge only to go and get it removed, but at some point he’s going to want to make space for some more colourful memories.

Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

When Sirius Black emerges from his lengthy Azkaban prison sentence he is sporting mysterious tattoos – do they mark gang affiliation? Whatever their meaning, they serve as proof that he made it through this dark section of his life, so should they be worn with pride and defiance or wiped off in an attempt to forget the injustice?

Carl in The Illustrated Man

In Ray Bradbury’s novel The Illustrated Man, as in the movie, Carl’s tattoos are pretty vital for the whole set up of the story, as they allow him to tell the future. The question is: does this become a blessing or a burden? It might be tempting to get a sneak peek at the next chapter of your life, but some laser tattoo removal would probably have helped Carl relax and unwind!

The Joker in Suicide Squad

Okay, so the movie isn’t actually out yet, but promotional photos showing Jared Leto as a heavily tattooed Joker has already got fans talking. An interesting twist on the character, this Joker looks as though he’s been ripped straight out of a vampire flick, and the tattoos have comic movie aficionados thoroughly divided… so should they stay or should they go?

As with all tattoos, these movie characters’ inkings are a matter of personal taste – it’s lucky that the days where tattoos equalled permanence are gone now, and people have the freedom to reclaim their skin, whether to make room for a new tattoo or to cleanse themselves of images entirely. Either way, we’re happy to offer those services here at the Apple Wellness Clinic; just contact us at 587-332-6767 to book your appointment.

Open Wide: Everything You Need To Know About Fillings

Brushing your teeth twice a day and limiting the amount of sugar that you eat can help keep your teeth in a healthy way – therefore reducing the chance that you will need extensive dental treatment.

There are several things that can harm the health of your teeth, including too much sugary sweets, drinks and chocolate. Having sweets or a fizzy drink as an occasional treat is okay, but they shouldn’t be part of your everyday diet. It’s important that you look after your children’s teeth – particularly when their adult teeth start to grow.

The Apple Wellness Center is a dental office in Airdrie, which specialises in both general and cosmetic dentistry. We treat people on a regular basis for dental issues that could have easily been avoided – with the most common procedure being fillings.

Do you have any fillings, or know what caused them? Do you know how to avoid getting them? Read on for everything you need to know about fillings!

iStock_000044377130_Large

What are fillings?

Fillings are used to help repair your teeth, when parts have been eroded away as a result of tooth decay or been damaged. Everyone has bacteria that lives on your teeth, and when we eat something that is sweet or sugary, it causes the bacteria to leave behind a strong acid that burns through teeth – therefore causing a cavity. It’s this cavity – or hole – that will need to be filled by the dentist.

The filling procedure?

The filling procedure will generally be the same at any dentist that you visit, but your experience will always depend on their professionalism, experience and skill.

Numbing

The first thing that the dentist will do is numb an area of the mouth that is closest to the tooth that’s going to be receiving a filling. This is done by injecting an anesthetic into the gum, which will start to numb the mouth almost immediately. Once this has taken affect, you shouldn’t be able to feel any other work that the dentist will do. No one wants to feel their tooth being drilled!

Drilling

Your dentist will then drill into your tooth so that they can remove any of the decay that is still there. How long this takes will depend on the size of the area and how big the decay is.

You might feel a slight vibration but the procedure shouldn’t hurt. If it does, more numbing can always be done! You shouldn’t be afraid of telling your dentist that you can still feel what they are doing.

Clean and Fill

Once your dentist believes that all the decay has been removed from the offended tooth or teeth, they will give it a clean so that it’s ready to be filled. This way, they will be able to check if the cavity has been successfully removed. Once they are satisfied, they will fill the hole.

Your mouth will probably remain numb for a few hours afterwards, so you will want to be careful when you eat or drink – no biting yourself! We usually recommend that you don’t eat or drink for at least an hour.

Gold, Silver or White

Your tooth will either be filled with a gold, silver amalgam or white composite resin filling (which is tooth coloured and blends in a lot better). Silver was used mainly in the past, with white costing extra but these days your dentist is mostly likely to use a white filling as the standard choice. It looks better, as it looks just like part of your tooth.

Foods to avoid

Fragment of glass cola with ice

Whether you’ve just got a filling, have a mouth full of them or are lucky enough to never of needed one, there are certain foods that you should avoid eating to keep your teeth in the best health. Some of them are obvious, and some of them will come as a surprise to you. These are:

  • Sweets and chocolate
  • Cakes
  • Biscuits
  • Honey
  • Ice cream
  • Fizzy pop such as cola
  • Fruit juice (Especially fresh juice)
  • Dried Fruit

You should keep these foods and drinks to a minimum – eat in moderation if at all.

If you are suffering from tooth decay, or you are due a check-up at the dentist, we can help you out.

Our dental practice has years of experience and we provide excellent customer service. There is no need to fear the dentist; you’ll be in great hands.

You can contact us by giving us a call on 587-332-6767 and a member of staff will help you out.

What To Consider Before Removing Your Tattoo

Getting a tattoo is a big step in anybody’s life. Tattoos used to be worn by the armed forces and commonly seen on criminals and gang members (hence why there is often still a stigma attached to people with tattoos). Of course in today’s society they are more sociably acceptable; a lot of celebrities have tattoos as do a lot of young people. They are more widely accepted in the workplace, however some businesses still require you to cover up your tattoos. This aside, more people getting tattoos today means that more people grow to wanting them removed. With laser tattoo removal, this is made easy when you want to remove a name or image you’ve grown out of.

Procedure

At Apple Wellness we try to minimize as much pain as possible when getting your tattoo removed, unfortunately we can’t make it completely pain-free. You know yourself and what you can tolerate better than anybody else, if you’re at all uncertain about the procedure and what it may entail, talk to our clinical experts about what you, and we, can do to minimize any discomfort you may experience.

You should also consider why you’re looking at removing your tattoo.
Does it bother you now? Are you ashamed of it, or does it just not reflect you as a person anymore? If this is the case and for your own peace of mind you simply want it gone, then perhaps take a moment to read through our laser removal procedures. If you simply want to remove the tattoo because it’s old and faded then perhaps think again. It doesn’t take much for a tattoo artist to redo an old tattoo. They can redefine the faded outlines, solidifying the blurred blacks and bringing your tattoo back into focus, they can also brighten up the filler colors in order to revitalize your worn image.

Scarring

It’s important to visit a professional, specialist clinic when looking to remove your tattoo. Though it may be a little expensive, a professional clinic like ours uses the very best equipment. This means that we can reduce the risk of scarring as well as reduce the number of treatments you will need in order to remove your tattoo. The alternative is visiting a tattoo parlour or clinic which advertises cheap laser tattoo removals or laser removal deductions. The problem with this is that the equipment will more than likely have been very cheap for the manufacturer to create. If this is the case, the laser may not be able to remove your tattoo as efficiently as a specialist clinic. This will mean that you will have to attend more treatments than necessary, which will leave your pockets depleted and will draw out the entire procedure longer than needed. Also, unlike a specialist clinic, the allure of cheap laser removal will more than likely leave scarring of your tattoo on your skin; as you want to rid yourself of your tattoo, settling for a bad scar is not an ideal outcome.

Here at Apple Wellness, we try our very best to remove as much of your previous tattoo as possible, although of course we can’t guarantee a complete removal as some inks are very difficult to fully break down. To combat this, Apple Wellness have invested in three high power laser systems to remove the trickiest of ink. Each of these systems cost us $100,000 so you know, with us, we have invested in quality systems and will do our very best in ensuring your tattoo is removed from your body. We have more information on our laser tattoo removal procedures and what kinds of lasers we use on our website, or, if you would prefer to ask us directly, you can call us on 587-332-6767.

Delving into your Dentures- What Do Dentists Look For During Your Check Up?

We’re willing to bet you are sick of being told how important visiting your dentist regularly is. But have you ever wondered what your dentist is actually looking for when having a good old peek at your teeth?

Well, as a leading dental office in Airdrie, we’re here to tell you exactly what our professional dentists look for when you come in for a check up! With simple dental appointments taking from under 30 minutes up to around an hour, there’s really no valid excuse not to pop in and get those teeth checked out! Who knows, you could save some money preventing serious problems by catching them early!

Dental Decay

Dental decay is one of the main aspects that a dentist will look for when you first step into your dental appointment. This can lead to the need for fillings and other more invasive dental work if not dealt with early.

iStock_000001958876XSmall

Decay can be quite hard to detect with the naked eye, so some dentists may prefer to take X Rays to determine if there is any traces of decay under the tooth’s surface. These X Rays are low in radiation, so they are a good way to quickly detect any dental abnormalities.

Plaque

Plaque is a clear coating that collects on your teeth. It comes from the bacteria that live in your mouth and can easily be scraped off with a scraper as it is quite soft, or you can try and reduce the amount of plaque created by switching to a fibrous, raw food orientated diet.

smile-191626__180

Plaque is one of the leading causes of cavities and tooth decay if not removed with regular cleaning, so your dentist may ask you to pay particular attention to problem areas.

Bad Breath or Halitosis

As well as your teeth, your dentist can also treat any bad breath you may be experiencing. Halitosis (or bad breath) is caused by the breaking down of proteins by the mouth bacteria, and can be combated with certain mouthwashes and toothpastes.

healthy teeth

Although bad breath doesn’t cause any dental problems, it could be a sign of a more serious problem which needs to be addressed.

Oral Cancer

Sadly, oral cancer is on the rise and like most other cancers, detecting it early can be life saving. Dental teams will check for oral cancer at every check up you have.

iStock_000044377130_Large

During your examination, the dentist will look at your mouth as a whole, including your tongue, your lips and your jaw. Oral cancer takes many different forms, and it’s important to have a professional check your entire mouth for any it may take. Remember, they can see areas of your mouth that you can’t!

Gum Disease

Gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss, so it’s super important to get on top of it before it takes hold.

Little Girl at The Dentist - iStock_000032022308_Medium

If you’ve ever experienced swollen or bleeding gums when brushing your teeth, it’s probably time you took a trip to the dentist. If left untreated, the bone in your jaw can begin to decay and eventually your teeth can become loose and possibly fall out.

All of these dental problems can be easily identified and avoided with the right treatment. Dental professionals are here to help you care for your teeth, and only with regular check ups can you avoid expensive, essential dental work.

Here at Apple Wellness Center, we’re dedicated to help you get that perfect smile, which means keeping those teeth healthy! Benefits of laser hair treatment

There are a number of benefits for getting laser hair treatments, and we have listed them below.

  • Permanent results – Those who get laser hair treatment can enjoy a permanent reduction in unwanted hair. Statistics have shown that over 60% of targeted hair is permanently gone after the recommended course of treatments. Whilst it may require touch up treatment sessions, this is typically not needed more than once every year.
  • Treatment is quick – The laser takes less than a second to remove several hairs at once. That means it can remove large areas of hair growth in a short span of time. Small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in less than a minute.
  • No more shaving – People can spend a lot of time shaving and waxing unwanted hair – this saves them a lot of time and effort.
  • Treatment for ingrown hairs – It’s an effective treatment for ingrown hairs! That means no more irritating skin and red bumps.
  • skin11
  • Where can hair be removed from?

Laser hair removal treatment basically works on any hair on the body. The most common areas of the body for laser removal treatment are:

    • Face – top lip, chin, jaw line, neck
    • Back and shoulders
    • Underarms and arms
    • Legs
    • Bikini line
    • Chest
    • Nipples
    • Abdomen

    Before getting laser removal treatment

There are several things you can do before getting laser hair removal treatment. You should limit plucking, shaving and waxing for up to 6 weeks before treatment. This is because the laser will target the roots of the hair, which are destroyed every time you shave or wax the hair.

It’s also advised to avoid direct exposure to the sun for up to 6 weeks before – as the sun makes the laser removal less effective.

    Last of all..

As with any cosmetic procedure, you should think about it carefully beforehand. Remember that the decision should be yours alone!

If you’re interested in booking a consultation for laser hair treatment, or any other of the services we provide, please do not hesitate to contact us.

You can call us on (403) 948-3342 and a member of staff will be happy to help you out and answer any of your questions.
