Know How to Take Care of Your Teeth

Posted on : October 26, 2015  By : Wellness

Here are the Apple Wellness Centre, we don’t just think laser tattoo removal in Lethbride, is important, we also believe that our teeth deserve our love and attention too. They give us that superstar smile and a confidence that’s contagious – not to mention they help us eat the food we adore! It’s important then, that we take great care with our teeth, as knowing how to look after our oral hygiene can help us prevent unwanted plaque and tartar build up, saving us from more drastic oral diseases such as gum disease and tooth decay.

What Can Help Your Teeth?

Before you get to scrubbing your pearls, it’s important to use the correct tools. Depending on your preference, you may chose to use an electronic or a hand held tooth brush. If you chose a hand held toothbrush, be sure to use one with rubber bristles on the back and sides of the brush, these will help reach those tough areas of your teeth and will help you clean your tongue.

Floss is a must have for oral hygiene. Your toothbrush, and the method you use, can only reach a certain percentage of your teeth and gums. Flossing will greatly help to rid the plaque and food build up between your teeth and just under your gum line.

Mouthwash is another tool for perfect oral hygiene. For complete coverage, using all three tools will help prevent plaque build up (whilst some mouthwash can help restoring the enamel on your teeth!).

How Should You Brush Your Teeth?

When you brush your teeth, there’s a set way to help optimise plaque removal.

First of all, hold your toothbrush at a 45⁰ angle to your teeth and brush from the top of your teeth down. Alternatively, use a circular motion at your teeth/gum line to help remove plaque build up in this area.

Secondly be sure to clean behind your teeth. For your front teeth, the best way to do this is by pulling your toothbrush from the top of your teeth to the bottom.

Thirdly make sure you reach to your back molars. More plaque builds up here than anywhere else.

How long do I brush my teeth for?

You should brush your teeth for two minutes (this includes flossing and mouthwash), spending, roughly, 30 seconds brushing your top row of teeth and your bottom row. This is to be sure all of the plaque and food you’ve eaten that day are completely removed from your mouth.

When should I brush my teeth?

For complete coverage, you should brush your teeth twice a day. Once in the morning after you’ve eaten breakfast (though many people brush their teeth as soon as they wake up) and last thing at night before you go to bed. This is a great way to wake your mouth up after a night of ‘fly catching’ and to help freshen yourself up after a busy day of trying out different foods and drinks.
